Rabbits need a vet who understands their unique physiology — not a generalist who sees them once a year. South Pasadena Animal Hospital provides dedicated rabbit care including wellness exams, dental checks, GI stasis treatment, spay/neuter, and more. Located in Alhambra, just minutes from Pasadena.
Rabbits hide illness until they're significantly unwell. Our team knows what subtle changes to look for — changes in gut sounds, dental wear patterns, weight shifts — that a general practice might miss. Dr. Gina Navia has particular interest in exotic and small mammal care.
GI stasis is one of the most common and dangerous conditions in rabbits, and it can become life-threatening within hours. We treat it promptly and work with owners to identify dietary or environmental triggers to reduce the risk of recurrence.
Rabbit teeth grow continuously throughout their life. Dental malocclusion, spurs, and abscesses are common and can prevent a rabbit from eating properly. We check tooth alignment and wear at every wellness exam and address problems before they become serious.

Yes — rabbits benefit from at least one wellness exam per year, and twice-yearly for rabbits over 5. Annual exams allow your vet to catch dental issues, weight changes, and early signs of illness before they become serious. Rabbits hide symptoms well, so regular exams are especially important.
GI stasis is a condition where the digestive system slows down or stops. Signs can include reduced or no droppings, loss of appetite, a hunched posture, or a bloated abdomen. It can become serious quickly, so contact a vet as soon as you notice any of these signs in your rabbit.
We recommend spaying female rabbits — unspayed females have a very high lifetime risk of uterine cancer. Neutering males can reduce territorial behavior and makes bonding with other rabbits easier. We typically recommend the procedure around 4–6 months of age.
